PROJECT DESCRIPTIONCompared to a flying machine that is capable of speeds in excess of 55 feet per second, a winch that moves a mass at seven feet per second sounds a little slow. However, in the case of the Wynn Marquee, the FTSI winch is moving a mass of 120,000 lbs at a speed of seven feet per second. The sign itself weighs 60,000 lbs and inside the structure that supports the video wall is a moving counterweight stack of 60,000 lbs.
For this project, FTSI teamed with YESCO to create a large, dynamic display that integrated motion and video into a seamless ballet. FTSI not only provided the winch for this project but also designed, manufactured and installed all of the rigging, counterweight and guide structures attached the moving marquee to the sign base structure. This project is also one of the highest duty cycle projects undertaken by FTSI. Design to run 24 hours a day, the winch and associated rigging has already cycled a distance of over 2000 miles.
